Buster Bots — Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 8, 2025
Company: Theory Studios, Inc. (Florida C-Corp) (“Theory Studios,” “we,” “us,” “our”)
Product: Buster Bots for Meta Quest
App ID: 6296780257048873

This Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices when you play Buster Bots.

1. What we collect

We process the minimum data needed to provide friend invites, shared lobbies, parties/voice, and matchmaking:

A. Meta Horizon platform data (via Meta APIs/SDKs)

  • Meta user ID and Oculus display name to identify you in-game and to friends.

  • Friends list (runtime only) to let you invite friends and see eligibility to join. We do not store your friends list on our servers; it’s accessed transiently to complete the invite/party flow.

  • Deep-link / Destination context so invitees can jump into the correct lobby/session.

  • Matchmaking & Parties/voice presence so groups can play and talk together.
Our use of Meta Horizon data is limited to running and supporting the experience and follows Meta’s DDUP.

B. Networking data (via Photon Realtime)

  • Technical connection data processed by Photon to operate multiplayer networking (e.g., IP address, region/cluster, session IDs, timestamps, diagnostics).
Photon Realtime is client-to-server on Photon Cloud; players don’t connect directly to one another. (PhotonEngine Docs, photonengine.com)

C. Data we do not collect
We do not collect Meta “Device User Data” such as sensor streams (camera/mic recordings for our own storage), abstracted hand/face/eye data, or headset pose data for our own purposes. (Note: under DDUP, “Device User Data” covers sensor/abstracted signals and explicitly does not include IP address.)

2. How we use data

We use the data above to:

  • Create and manage shared lobbies/rooms, invite friends, and match players into sessions.

  • Process deep links/destinations so invitees land in the same session.

  • Enable Parties/voice through Meta’s platform features (our app does not record or store party voice audio).

  • Maintain secure, reliable networking via Photon’s cloud infrastructure. (photonengine.com)

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use Meta Horizon data for advertising.

3. Sharing

We share data only as described below:

  • Service Provider (Networking): We use Photon to provide realtime networking. We share only what’s necessary for connectivity, under terms that limit use to operating our services and require deletion when no longer needed. DDUP requires written terms and limits for Service Providers; we follow those requirements.

  • Meta Platforms: To the extent required to use Horizon platform features (friends, matchmaking, parties, destinations), your use of Quest is also subject to Meta’s terms/policies.

  • Legal/Compliance: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.

Upon request, we can provide Meta a list of our Service Providers and related assurances, as DDUP requires.

4. Retention

  • Friends list & party presence: accessed transiently at runtime and not stored by Theory Studios.

  • Session/diagnostic logs: We do not collect or process any diagnostic logs. Photon may collect anonymized diagnostic data to operate, secure, and debug the service. We also follow DDUP’s requirement to delete user data without undue delay when users request it, when it’s no longer needed, or when Meta requires deletion.

5. Security

Our networking provider, Photon, maintains programs focused on security and privacy (e.g., ISO 27001:2022, GDPR/CCPA alignment). (photonengine.com)

6. International transfers

Because Meta and Photon operate globally, your data may be processed on servers outside your country (e.g., the U.S. or other regions). We handle transfers consistent with applicable law and Meta’s cross-border terms.

7. Your rights & choices

All players—regardless of where you live—can ask us to access, correct, or delete personal data we control about you.

  • Deletion/Access requests: Email us at legal@theorystudios.com. We will also ensure our Service Providers (e.g., Photon) delete data.

  • Meta account controls: Manage your Meta profile, friends, and platform privacy settings through Meta’s own controls.

8. Children’s privacy

Buster Bots is intended for users aged 13+. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Policy for product, legal, or operational reasons. We’ll update the “Effective date,” and where required, notify you in-app or on our website.
